Fáilte mhór roimh Geabaire: Augmentative and Alternative Communication through Irish
Gaeloideachas is delighted to welcome the launch of Geabaire, an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) system as Gaeilge. Geabaire will help to make communication through Irish more accessible and inclusive for everyone, while providing AAC users with greater opportunities to express themselves and participate in the Irish language community.
By providing AAC through Irish, new ways and additional opportunities are being made available for children who are non-speaking or minimally-speaking, celebrate their identity, and thrive in Irish-medium education. Everyone has the right to have their voice heard, and Geabaire will help to make that a reality.
Geabaire will transform the lives of children and young people in the Irish-medium education system. From naíonra level onwards, it will give them another voice – helping them to express themselves in a different way, build connections with others, participate and develop a true sense of belonging.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Julia Cummins, Dr Neasa Ní Chiaráin, Dr Emily Barnes, Professor Ailbhe Ní Chasaide, and the entire Abair team in Trinity College Dublin for developing and making this communication system available, as well as to all the children and young people who inspired this vital project from the very beginning. Comhghairdeas mór libh!
