Tá ranganna uathachais ag go leor scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge anois freisin. Cuirtear na tacaíochtaí céanna ar fáil do na páistí agus daltaí seo a bhfuil riachtanais speisialta acu is a chuirtear ar fáil i réamhscoileanna agus scoileanna príomhshrutha ar bith eile.

Maítear nach ndéanann an t-oideachas dátheangach aon dochar do pháistí le riachtanais speisialta oideachais agus dearbhaítear an méid seo ina thaobh:

Coiste Comhairleach Gaeloideachas ar Oideachas Speisialta

Tá coiste comhairleach curtha le chéile ag Gaeloideachas le clár oibre na heagraíochta i réimse na riachtanas speisialta oideachais a threorú.   • bunachar sonraí a fhorbairt de shaineolalaithe agus cleachtóirí móide taighde ábhartha san earnáil ar réimsí leathan ábhair;
  • pleanáil agus reáchtáil seimineár agus comhdhálacha RSO, i gcomhar le páirtnéirí eile;
  • aighneachtaí a ullmhú don ROS agus don Chomhchoiste Oideachais i leith riachtanais agus dúshláin na hearnála.

Roghnaíonn go leor tuismitheoirí a bhfuil páistí le riachtanais speisialta oideachais acu scoileanna lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta dá gclann. Exemptions from Irish: An Inclusion Dilemma

Achoimre: While exemptions from Irish are periodically reported in the media, they have attracted little academic commentary. Learners with certain special educational needs (SEN) qualify for an exemption from Irish when clear criteria are met (DES1, 1994; DES, 1996), but there appears to be a gap between policy and practice. This paper presents findings on the educational profile of learners with Williams syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental condition that results in an intellectual disability (ID) but an aptitude for language learning. Most of the teacher participants in the study acknowledged the languagelearning capacity of the learners but some portrayed professional dilemmas of working within the parameters of an exemption from Irish. While this paper primarily aims to open the debate on exemptions from Irish, it also proposes a framework for the teaching of Irish to learners with SEN.
