National Conversation on Education
The National Conversation on Education has begun, and we want the Gaeloideachas community to be active and vocal in the process. Thanks to everyone who put their names forward to take part in the national forum. Gaeloideachas will have a representative there.
Gaeloideachas will write a submission as part of this process, and we want suggestions for you to inform it. Please send them to eolas@gaeloideachas.ie. Submissions are welcome from individuals, from naíonraí or school communities, or from other groups. The deadline is 28th February. The results of the submissions will be used to inform the Education Conference agenda.
Gaeloideachas will be taking part in the survey. Among the responses, we will emphasise immersion education as something that is working well in the system, and the lack of continuity as something that is not working, as every child should have the opportunity to go from naíonra to primary school to post-primary school.
Some really positive developments for Irish-medium education came from the national conversation that took place in 1994, including the establishment of COGG and An Foras Pátrúnachta, and the Policy for Gaeltacht Education. We need to take the opportunity now to ensure the best future for children and young people by providing them with the additional benefits of immersion education.
We welcome any questions or suggestions.
