The Department of Education is fully funding this new part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Irish for Teachers (upskilling). It will be run by Trinity College Dublin and the Marino Institute of Education. Teachers currently registered with the Teaching Council with a level B1 ability in Irish may apply for the course which will begin teaching in January 2025. It is a two-year, part-time course, largely online, and well-suited to those already in the teaching workforce. There will also be a residential Gaeltacht period during the course of the two years. On successful completion of the course, teachers will be fully qualified to teach Irish to Leaving Certificate level.
